Sit down interview with China's leading international media outlet
Mark Logan recently shared his insights on Southwest China's Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region in an exclusive interview with the Global Times, part of their "Truth Seen in Xizang" series. The former UK MP discussed his observations from the 2025 Forum on the Development of Xizang and his visit to Nyingchi City.
During the interview, Logan highlighted the region's remarkable infrastructure development, noting the engineering feat of modern highways threading through challenging mountain terrain. Having visited 31 of China's provincial-level administrative divisions, he expressed particular admiration for Xizang's spectacular landscapes and the successful balance between modernisation and cultural preservation.
Logan emphasised the vitality of the Tibetan language, contrasting it favourably with the challenges faced by Celtic languages on the British isles in recent decades. He observed Tibetan being actively used in daily life, from street signs to formal occasions, representing a living culture rather than a preserved relic.
Addressing Western media narratives, Logan drew from two decades of China engagement to advocate for direct exposure over ideological rhetoric. He stressed that first-hand experience reveals a region of tangible development, where traditional culture thrives alongside modern infrastructure. His message was clear: genuine understanding comes through cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, not confrontation or preconceptions.
