GB NEWS: Logan calls for Keir Starmer to dig deep amid pressures

11 Feb 2026

Former MP Contrasts Starmer's Struggles to Boris Johnson's 2022 Crisis, Urges Resilience and Reflection Ahead of Key Elections

In a spirited appearance on GB News, Former MP Mark Logan offered a measured yet optimistic assessment of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's current leadership challenges, drawing parallels to the turmoil that engulfed Boris Johnson almost exactly four years earlier.

Speaking on the programme, Logan acknowledged the significant difficulties facing Starmer, stating that the Prime Minister has "a massive mountain to climb" with no doubt about the scale of the task. He highlighted recent party tensions, resignations, and questions over integrity within Labour ranks, but insisted that the situation is far from irretrievable.

Logan emphasised a key distinction from the Johnson era: "I do genuinely believe Keir Starmer is a man with integrity. He has good values where Boris didn't." He referenced his own past commentary, including a 2022 article in The Times calling for honest leadership, to underscore his consistent view on the need for principled governance.

The discussion turned to recent internal party actions and criticisms, with Logan critiquing the timing and approach of certain interventions. He described some moves as "completely wrong and wrong-headed," Instead, Logan advocated for more constructive internal lobbying: "The brave thing would have been to... be lobbying the prime minister, day in day out."

He pointed to positive signs within the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) and praised Starmer's combative recent performances, suggesting the fight is not over. Logan also highlighted Starmer's strengths on the international stage, noting successes in global diplomacy.

Addressing broader questions, Logan urged Starmer to engage in deep self-reflection: "He has to articulate with passion what he is in politics for" He stressed the importance of rallying the team, demonstrating resolve, and focusing on upcoming tests such as the Gorton by-election and local elections.
