Chris announced as new Chair Professor of Modern China
Jean Christopher (Chris) Mittelstaedt, at a fairly tender age, has been a force to reckon with when it comes to understanding China.
His expertise includes new approaches to ideology in China, the emergence of Xi Jinping Cultural thought and the role of technology at the party’s grassroots level.
Both Mittelstaedt and Logan studied at Peking University around the time of the Beijing Olympics, and they both completed postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.
Chris has just been announced as the new Chair Professor of Modern China at the University of Zurich, and will finish his time at SOAS in the next few months.
He was previously the China Studies programme director at the University of Oxford.
