Reflecting on Historic Ties: Meeting with Myanmar's Chargé d'Affaires

12 Feb 2026

LI Asia Pacific Chair draws on parliamentary experience and regional language skills in wide-ranging diplomatic discussion

Mark Logan, Chair of the Asia Pacific Branch at LI, recently met with the Chargé d'Affaires - Mr Win Zeyar Tun - at the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for a wide-ranging and productive discussion on the relationship between the United Kingdom and Myanmar.

The meeting covered significant ground, beginning with the rich bilateral history shared by the two nations - a relationship shaped by decades of diplomatic, cultural, and economic exchange. The conversation moved to contemporary political developments in both the UK and Myanmar, with both sides reflecting on the evolving domestic landscapes and their implications for future cooperation. Discussion also extended to wider regional considerations across South East Asia, including trade, security, and multilateral engagement in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

Mark Logan brings considerable expertise to these conversations. He previously played a leading role in multiple All-Party Parliamentary Groups focused on the Asia Pacific region, giving him deep insight into the policy challenges and opportunities that define the UK's engagement with this vital part of the world.

His personal commitment to the region is equally evident in his linguistic abilities. Mark is fluent in Mandarin Chinese - the language of one of Myanmar's most important diplomatic and strategic partners - and is currently learning Japanese, the language of a nation with strong and growing economic links with Myanmar.

The meeting underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy in nurturing the UK's relationships across the Asia Pacific.

CDA Win Zeyar Tun and Mr Logan were also joined by Counsellor of the Embassy of Myanmar Han Thu Thu Nway.
