30 Sept 2025

Vicky Bowman CMG has vast experience in international relations including in diplomacy, mining and Myanmar.

Mark Logan recently had the privilege of chairing a successful launch event for the Asia Pacific branch of Labour International, which brought together committee members and participants from across the Asia Pacific region and Europe. The highlight of the evening was hosting Vicky Bowman CMG, former British Ambassador to Myanmar, for an insightful discussion on Myanmar's current political situation.

Given the UK's deep historical connections to Myanmar, it was crucial to hear Vicky's expert analysis on recent developments in-country. With over thirty-five years of experience spanning diplomacy, responsible business, and human rights, Vicky offered invaluable perspectives on the complex challenges facing Myanmar today.

Previously Director of the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, Vicky brought a nuanced understanding of the interplay between business, human rights, and political stability. Her tenure as UK Ambassador to Myanmar from 2002-2006, combined with her extensive work with organisations like Rio Tinto and various multistakeholder initiatives, provided a comprehensive lens through which to examine the crisis.

Our discussion explored not only the evolving situation on the ground but also the vital role that the UK and other international actors can play in promoting stability and supporting Myanmar's path forward.
