Former Politicians Discuss Governance and Philosophy at Zhu Xi Legacy Conference in Fujian

Mark Logan, former FCDO and Member of Parliament, recently met with Vincent Meriton, the former Vice President of the Seychelles, during the annual conference celebrating the legacy of renowned Chinese philosopher Zhu Xi (朱熹) in Nanping, Fujian Province.

Mr. Meriton brings a wealth of experience from his distinguished career in public service. Armed with a Master of Arts in Sociology from Moscow State University, he has been a prominent figure in Seychellois politics for over two decades. His ministerial journey began in 2004, during which he skilfully managed diverse portfolios including social affairs, employment, health, culture, community development, youth, and sports.

Before his appointment as Vice President, Meriton served as Designated Minister from 2010, simultaneously overseeing the Ministry for Community Development, Social Affairs and Sports. His political engagement extends back to his tenure as a member of parliament from 1998 to 2002.

The meeting between Mark and the former Vice President took place on the side lines of the prestigious conference dedicated to Zhu Xi, one of China's most influential Neo-Confucian philosophers. This gathering provided a unique platform for international dialogue, bringing together leaders and thinkers from various backgrounds to explore the enduring relevance of classical Chinese philosophy in contemporary governance and society.

The encounter represents a meaningful exchange between experienced public servants from different cultural and political contexts, united by their shared interest in philosophical traditions and public service.
