SASS is one of China's most important Policy Research institutes
Mark Logan, the former Vice Chair of the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary China Group (APPCG), recently addressed a forum at the prestigious Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS).
As one of China’s oldest and most authoritative comprehensive research institutions, SASS is a cornerstone of the nation’s policy academia. Its expertise in international relations, particularly through dedicated institutes, provides critical analysis on global strategic landscapes.

Logan was welcomed by leading scholars Professor Wang Jian and Professor Li Lifan. The roundtable discussion included a promising cohort of experts focusing on US-China relations, Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Central Asia, fostering a wide-ranging dialogue on contemporary geopolitics.
The visit carried a personal significance for Logan, who previously served in Shanghai as Head of Communications at the British Consulate-General. Returning to the city in his capacity as a former senior parliamentary figure specialising in UK-China relations highlighted a continued commitment to track II diplomacy. Such forums, he noted, are essential for maintaining substantive dialogue at a time when more politicians and their publics realise that significant changes are afoot.
